AR84 is an 8 XLR input, 4 XLR output AudioRack. Adding an AR84 to your system lets you position some of your I/O up to 100m from the mxer, connected over a single Cat5 cable running Allen & Heath’s dSNAKE protocol. dSNAKE provides control to the remote preamp, and all mic preamps are scene recallable.
The AR84 is a 19” rack mountable remote audio unit for all Allen & Heath digital mixing systems
compatible with the dSnake protocol. It provides 8 remote controlled mic/line preamps and 4 XLR line
outputs.
Using a single network cable, the AR84 can be connected directly to the mixer or cascaded from an
AR2412 or AB168.
The AR84 uses the 48kHz dSnake protocol, which is a layer 2, fast ethernet protocol designed for pointto-
point connections. This means it can be connected to the dedicated dSnake ports included on the
GLD and Qu systems or used with the intelligent SLink port which can switch to a dSnake mode.
Refer to the latest documentation for your mixer available from www.allen-heath.com for more information
on connecting, patching, and controlling the AR84 with your system.
Cat5e (or higher) STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) cable should be used, with a maximum cable length of
100m (330ft) between each unit. Use of passive couplers to join cables will reduce this distance.
High-quality touring grade cables are available through your A&H dealer. Please see www.allenheath.

Maximum Flexibility
Put It Where You Need It
The AR84 can be placed up to 100m away from the mixer for maximum flexibility of positioning, and is fitted with rack ears for installation in a 1U 19″ rack space. The AR84 connects over a single Cat5 cable to the mixer or upstream Expander.
8 Mic Preamps
+60dB of gain with -20dB pad for line level sources.
4 Line Outs
Balanced, relay protected line outputs on XLR.
Plug-and-Play
No configuration required, just connect to your mixer and you’re ready to go. Firmware updates are handled automatically by the mixer.

mixing system. The remote audio rack shall provide 8 XLR
inputs and 4 XLR outputs and shall be connected to add a
further inputs and outputs. The XLR sockets shall be the
same or higher quality and specification as those located on
the digital mixing system, and shall appear in the digital
mixing system soft patch for assignment to channels.
Audio connection shall be over Cat5 cable using Allen &
Heath’s dSNAKE Ethernet protocol, allowing the remote
audio rack to be positioned up to 100m from the mixer or
expanded audio rack. The Ethernet protocol shall provide
control to the remote preamp, and all mic preamps are
scene recallable by the digital mixing system. Unit firmware
shall automatically be updated when connected to the digital
mixing system. The local Ethernet port shall be an RJ45
socket with EtherCon locking ring.
It shall also be possible to connected the remote audio rack
to a main AudioRack unit to add a further 8 XLR inputs and
4 XLR outputs from that location. This connection shall be
via an ‘Expander’ connection and shall also be an RJ45
socket with EtherCon locking ring.
